LOOSE LEAD & WALKING

Make peace
with the leash.

More connection, less pulling and a clearer plan for your walks.

Private training · Brisbane

A dog checking in with its handler on a relaxed walk with a visibly slack lead.

A walk should have room to breathe.

Loose-lead walking is about more than keeping your dog beside your leg. We work on engagement, communication and what to do when the environment gets interesting.

The aim is a practical walk that suits you and your dog, with space for appropriate sniffing and exploration.

Training goal: Practise a looser lead, more check-ins and clearer handling around distractions.

FINDING YOUR STARTING POINT

What we practise along the way.

  • Noticing and rewarding a loose lead.
  • Checking in without constant prompting.
  • Starting, stopping and changing direction clearly.
  • Choosing manageable routes and distractions.
  • Building skills beyond the quiet practice spot.
  • Recognising when excitement or worry is taking over.

WHAT THE WORK CAN LOOK LIKE

A walk that works for both of you.

Owner-and-dog coaching

I demonstrate, then help you practise timing, lead handling and the decisions that make a walk work.

Trainer-led practice

Walk & Train can provide focused practice on agreed goals for suitable dogs. Details are arranged after discussing needs.

Carry it into your own walks

Owner involvement is needed so the skills make sense with you as well as with the trainer.

Pulling or reacting? Sometimes both.

If your dog barks, lunges or becomes distressed around dogs or people, the walk may need behaviour support alongside lead skills.

Tell me what happens. You don’t need to decide which category your dog belongs in before getting in touch.
